How to Build a Quality Start Up Team

Building a quality team is imperative, no matter where your business is at in its journey. A quality team is bound to make your company grow and allow you to focus on what’s most important.

So how do you actually grow a quality team? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with some of my favorite suggestions.

Identify roles

Its important to have an org chart and review it regularly - especially as you initially build your start up. By doing so, you can identify any gaps on your current team, predict areas of the business which will need to have enough team members in order to excel, and plan for any attrition on the horizon.

Identify candidates

This is where networking, referrals, and active recruiting becomes essential. You want quality candidates who align with each role and your company's values. Candidates who are ambitious, eager to learn, and grow with the organization are ideal. The best place to start is looking within your very own network!

Linkedin

Speaking of looking within your own network…utilize LinkedIn! LinkedIn is the world's largest professional networking platform and provides unparalleled access to a vast pool of talent, allowing you to connect with professionals from diverse industries and backgrounds. By leveraging LinkedIn's advanced search filters and recommendation features, you can quickly identify and engage with potential candidates who possess the exact skills and experience required for your organization. Tapping into your personal network can yield tremendous benefits, as your contacts can provide valuable referrals, introductions, and recommendations, thus expanding your reach and enhancing your recruitment efforts.

Create a comprehensive recruiting process

The recruiting process can significantly influence a candidate's decision on whether to work for your company. In today's world, they have options. A thoughtful, well-executed, and organized process along with a friendly approach will be memorable and can set you apart from others.

Attracting the right people

Offer the right benefits - this may sound obvious, but benefits matter just as much as compensation. Employees want to work for companies that value work life balance and their employees health and wellness. Think beyond the basics like insurance and 401ks, of course those are great, but what else can you offer to support your employees? A healthy time off policy to ensure they don’t burn out? Maybe yoga or gym membership? Hybrid/remote working? These are all things candidates value and will set you apart from the rest. Remember - when you take care of your employees, they will take care you.

There are many other factors that go into building an exceptional team, these are just the main ones. If you need more assistance with hiring and onboarding new employees, reach out! We’d love to chat!
